‘Wonderful, not at all disappointed!’ That was the view of Marion, a recent visitor to the Bamberg Greenman Carving in Wootton Rivers.
This mystical carving in an old oak tree is just on the side of Mud Lane, one of the network of footpaths in and around this picturesque village.
Our thanks go to Marion for sending in her review and notes on the walk as well as a lovely picture.
To get to the Green Man I walked out of Wootton Rivers on Forest Road. When you get to a bridle path on your left, marked (not clearly) Clench Common and Hat Gate follow bridle path to top of the hill. You will join another bridle path (known as Mud Lane) turn left and about quarter of a mile on your right is the oak tree with the green man carving.
This, in my opinion, is such a lovely carving that it most certainly should be promoted.
