This wonderful organisation has been operating for more than 25 years on the Kennet & Avon Canal, offering boating holidays to disabled, disadvantaged and elderly people, as well as community and other groups. The boats are based at The Wharf at Great Bedwyn.
The four specially designed, purpose built, wide beam canal boats are available for week or multi-week self-catering and self-crewed holidays. Crewed day trips are also available to any groups who would like to enjoy a day out on the water.
The fleet has five boats – Hannah, Rachel, Rebecca and Diana are wide-beam and Lady Hilda is a narrowboat. The wide-beam boats have all been designed to accommodate wheelchair users and those with special needs and are equipped with hydraulic wheelchair lifts. In addition, they have wide access boarding ramps, low level bunks and accessible showers, with Rebecca having a hospital bed.
The Lady Hilda is available for community and other groups, in particular young people and youth organisations such as Scouts, Beavers, Guide and Brownies and Duke of Edinburgh students.
Training is available to anyone taking out a boat so that you can operate the boats with confidence.
The Bruce Accessible Boats (The Bruce Branch) is part of the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust which is a registered charity and is run by volunteers.
