A third generation fishmonger by trade and with over 30 years' experience in the food industry behind him, Nick Spaven (who runs Gastronicks with partner Jane Kempsey) brings in a regular delivery of sustainably caught, South Coast day boat fish. Nick’s grandfather originated in the fishing port of Hull, his father trained in Aberdeen and Nick learned his trade on the fish quays of Grimsby, going on to join the family business in Lancashire and later running his own fish business from Looe in Cornwall for 12 years.
Nick maintains his contact with the South Coast fish markets, determined to bring in only the freshest seasonal fish.
He has not lost his filleting skills and will prepare your fish while you wait. Which is good news because it then gives you the opportunity to browse the shelves in their Aladdin’s Cave of British and Mediterranean foods and wines, sourced direct from small artisan producers.
