A Fishy Tale

Wiltshire may not have a coastline but it does have Gastronicks in Collingbourne Ducis to keep keen seafood lovers supplied with fresh, top quality fish.

A third generation fishmonger by trade and with over 30 years' experience in the food industry behind him, Nick Spaven (who runs Gastronicks with partner Jane Kempsey) brings in a regular delivery of sustainably caught, South Coast day boat fish.  Nick’s grandfather originated in the fishing port of Hull, his father trained in Aberdeen and Nick learned his trade on the fish quays of Grimsby, going on to join the family business in Lancashire and later running his own fish business from Looe in Cornwall for 12 years.

Nick maintains his contact with the South Coast fish markets, determined to bring in only the freshest seasonal fish.

He has not lost his filleting skills and will prepare your fish while you wait.  Which is good news because it then gives you the opportunity to browse the shelves in their Aladdin’s Cave of British and Mediterranean foods and wines, sourced direct from small artisan producers.

With their expert knowledge and years of experience, Nick and Jane can suggest the simplest ways to cook fish, provide you with recipes and find you a wine to match.

You can keep up to date with the fresh fish deliveries by following Gastronicks on Facebook  or by signing up to their newsletter on their website.

If you can't get over on the day, then just call Nick and Jane on 01264 852701 and they can prepare the fish for you and freeze it until you are ready to collect.

Have you been?   It's so easy to get there - on the Cadley Road in Collingbourne Ducis (just up the road from The Shears Inn) - and with plenty of free parking right outside, it's completely stress free.
